Onewhero is a village in the Waikato District, and is part of the Waikato Region in the North Island of New Zealand. The population of the Onewhero statistical area, which is much larger than the town itself, was 3,771 people in the 2006 census.[1]

The name Onewhero translates from Maori as "Red Earth", which describes the soil colour typical in the Franklin region.

The town consists of a catholic church, school, rugby club, fire station, garage, performing arts theatre (Onewhero Society of Performing Arts), lawn bowls club and tennis club. Also located nearby in Pukekawa is The Onewhero Golf Club.

The main and only school is Onewhero Area School, which serves from Years 1 to 13. There is also a pre-school for children under 5 years.

The major towns nearby are Pukekohe and Tuakau.
