The Optare StarRider is a midibus/midicoach body that was produced by Optare between 1987 and 1994. It was based on a Mercedes-Benz 811D/814D chassis, with its body made from a steel frame with aluminium alloy and GPR exterior panels.
Operators
London Transport took 123 StarRiders, which is more than the successful CityPacer.
Replacement
It was replaced by the similar MetroRider which was based on MCW design.
Preservation
At least one StarRider, E 809 MOU, has been preserved, see picture.
