Oreste Benzi (September 7, 1925 – November 2, 2007) was an Italian Catholic priest famous for having founded the Pope John XXIII community. His cause of canonization is currently underway, and he has been given the title Servant of God.[1][2]
Biography
Born in San Clemente, Benzi is best known for his action in defense of the socially marginalised and his battle against prostitution and homosexuality. After his death in Rimini, more than 10,000 mourners attended his funeral including many of the prostitutes he had rescued.[3]
Today, his Community is present in 27 Europe countries, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
