The World of Ouzo

The World of Ouzo is a museum and factory tour located in the facilities of the ouzo distillery Isidoros Arvanitis, in Plomari, Lesvos, Greece. Its goal is to promote the traditional art of ouzo distillation as practiced in Plomari.

Features

Outdoor exhibits include a collection of tools used in distillation and bottling, like old copper stills and distillate containers as well as capping and labeling equipment.[1]

Indoor exhibits include a collection of tools, traditionally used in the production of ouzo such as alcoholometers, thermometers, containers for ouzo, box seals as well as the first bottle of Ouzo of Plomari Isidoros Arvanitis.

Tour in the main factory facilities are available where visitors are shown the history of ouzo in Plomari. The procedure of distillation is shown taking place in 18 small, handmade, copper stills, along with explanations of the Lesbian herbs and fruits that are contained in the ouzo of Plomari.[2]

In a specially designed area visitors taste and attempt to distinguish the characteristics of a qualitative ouzo.
