Characters
The Great Tomb of Nazarick
- Ainz Ooal Gown (アインズ・ウール・ゴウン Ainzu Ūru Goun) / Momonga (モモンガ)
- Voiced by: Satoshi Hino (drama CD, anime)
- The main character and the only remaining member of the Guild of Ainz Ooal Gown. Originally he was a simple salaryman playing a VR online game, but after he was transported to the New World, he decides to make himself a legend in hopes of finding his old guildmates. To facilitate his search, he changes his name from Momonga to Ainz Ooal Gown. As he has the form of a lich, he doesn't need to eat or sleep, can't be poisoned or killed by conventional means, but also suppresses his emotions and empathy. Because of his formerly high level in Yggdrasil, he can easily overpower even the strongest of magic casters in the new world and while he lacks the skills of natural warriors, he compensates for it with raw strength. He also has an array of items he purchased with real money back in Yggdrasil, which give him abilities ranging from summoning extremely high level items to instantly casting a spell that usually has a long casting time. When Ainz travels as an adventurer, he uses the alias "Momon" which later becomes "Momon the Dark Hero". In the CD drama #2, his real name is revealed to be Suzuki Satoru.
- Albedo (アルベド Arubedo)
- Voiced by: Yumi Hara (drama CD, anime)
- The overseer of the Floor Guardians and one of the most powerful NPCs in Nazarick. She takes the form of a beautiful woman with fallen angel wings and horns. Because Ainz modified her settings on a whim, she ends up madly in love with him. Albedo's romantic obsessions are so strong that if Ainz were to even glance at her body, she would immediately become excited. Albedo's obsession with Ainz has led him to greatly regret his actions. While she tries to act calm, as befitting of her role, any perceived insult against Ainz or Nazarick, real or imagined, sends her into a rage. Like most inhabitants of Nazarick, she despises humans which she refers to as "Lower life-forms".
- Shalltear Bloodfallen (シャルティア・ブラッドフォールン Sharutia Buraddofōren)
- Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka (drama CD, anime)
- The Guardian of the First, Second, and Third floors of Nazarick, she has the form of a beautiful vampire girl. She's also in love with Momonga which puts her at odds with Albedo. While the two don't mind sharing Momonga, they still fight for superiority and who would ultimately appeal to Momonga the most. Shalltear is the most powerful floor guardian in overall battle strength as she was optimized for both melee and magical fighting. Due to an incident where she is subjected to mind control by a member of the Black Scripture, she ends up unintentionally rebelling against Nazarick. In the final episode, she was finally defeated by Ainz thanks to his knowledge of her strengths and weaknesses and by the use of Over-rank magic and cash shop items. After her defeat, she was revived using 500 million gold coins and while she was freed of the mind control, she had no memory of what happened during these events.
- Cocytus (コキュートス Kokyūtosu)
- Voiced by: Kenta Miyake (drama CD, anime)
- The Guardian of the Fifth floor of Nazarick, he has the form of a huge, four-armed, insect-like humanoid with the power of cryokinesis. He has a warrior personality and respects anyone with a fighting spirit. Cocytus is in charge of the security of Nazarick, and later becomes responsible for a tribe of lizardmen that Ainz has him conquer.
- Demiurge (デミウルゴス Demiurugosu)
- Voiced by: Masayuki Katō (drama CD, anime)
- The Guardian of the Seventh floor of Nazarick, with the form of a demon wearing a suit with a metalic tail and having glasses. Demiurge is very intelligent, but is also considered the most evil NPC on Nazarick. He greatly enjoys the suffering of others, made clear by his vicious experiments on prisoners. He's in charge of tactics and defenses of Nazarick. Among the Guardians, he gets along the best with Mare, since he understands the more cunning side of the Dark Elf.
- Sebas Tian (セバス・チャン Sebasu Chan)
- Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba (drama CD, anime)
- The head butler of Nazarick and leader of the Pleiades Combat Maids, who specializes in unarmed combat with power comparable with the other floor Guardians. He has the appearance of an elderly gentleman with a neat beard, but is actually of a species known as Dragonoids. He has a strong sense of justice, like his creator Touch-Me. Thus, he dislikes when the other Guardians kill humans needlessly. Because of their opposite personalities, he and Demiurge don't get along.
- Aura Bella Fiora (アウラ・ベラ・フィオーラ Aura Bera Fiōra)
- Voiced by: Emiri Katō (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Guardians of the Sixth floor of Nazarick, alongside her twin brother Mare. She's very energetic and extroverted, in contrast with her brother. Aura is a 70-year-old Dark Elf. Despite constantly fighting, she and Shalltear are quite close. Aura specializes in beast-taming and fights with a long, bladed whip.
- Mare Bello Fiore (マーレ・ベロ・フィオーレ Māre Bero Fiōre)
- Voiced by: Yumi Uchiyama (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Guardians of the Sixth floor of Nazarick alongside his twin sister Aura. He's rather shy and calm in comparison to his sister, although he can fight and be ruthless when necessary. Like his sister, Mare is a Dark Elf. Mare specializes in Druid magic, capable of twisting the earth to his whims.
- Narberal Gamma (ナーベラル・ガンマ Nāberaru Ganma)
- Voiced by: Manami Numakura (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Pleiades, combat maids under Sebas Tian. She's a Doppelgänger and because she's one of the most human-looking of the maids, she is Momonga's companion in his exploration of the new world disguised as adventurers. Narberal takes great pride in this duty, often "wearing" it like a badge of honor. However, like most in Nazarick, she holds great disdain towards humans. This proves troublesome, as she becomes incredibly violent when human males make advances on her. While operating as a member of the adventuring guild, "Darkness", Narberal uses the alias of "Nabe", which becomes "Nabe, the Beautiful Lady" when Darkness becomes famous. Narberal's beauty has been compared to that of the "Golden Princess of Re-Estize" by many of the country's inhabitants.
- Yuri Alpha (ユリ・アルファ Yuri Arufa)
- Voiced by: Hiromi Igarashi (drama CD, anime)
- The Vice-Captain of the Pleiades. She's a Dullahan, and like Sebas, she doesn't like killing humans without reason. The other Pleiades look up to her and her behavior is strict like a teacher's. She was considered to accompany Momonga in his exploration because she looks very human, but he decided on Narberal instead. This is something that Ainz regrets after witnessing Narberal's coldness toward other humans.
- Lupusregina Beta (ルプスレギナ・ベータ Rupusuregina Bēta)
- Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Pleiades. She's a werewolf with a very bright and outgoing personality. She is sociable and friendly toward humans, though it is only a mask to conceal her brutal and cunning personality. She also likes to make lewd jokes. Lupusregina is a druid capable of using healing magic, and often carries a massive staff to fight. Lupusregina is later assigned by Ainz to protect the inhabitants of Carne Village after he tames Hamsuke (as her presence was the only thing keeping monsters away from there).
- CZ2128 Delta (シズ・デルタ Shizu Deruta)
- Voiced by: Asami Seto (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Pleiades. She's an automaton whose weapons look rather futuristic compared to the setting. Her personality is silent and emotionless, but she dislikes cannibalism and likes cute things. Her rather neutral personality also makes her safer to humans.
- Solution Epsilon (ソリュシャン・イプシロン Soryushan Ipushiron)
- Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Pleiades. She's a slime and one of the most dangerous Pleiades to humans, since she enjoys devouring humans alive. An assassin and poisoner who can decide to protect or dissolve things she absorbs, she can also control the speed of her digestion. Solution gets along with Shalltear because of their similar tastes.
- Entoma Vasilissa Zeta (エントマ・ヴァシリッサ・ゼータ Entoma Vuashirissa Zēta)
- Voiced by: Kei Shindo (drama CD, anime)
- One of the Pleiades. An insect-summoner who likes preying on humans (in particular eating the arms of men). Her face is actually a bug shell that hides her true face, while she disguises her voice with that of a cute girl by using a leech that can minmic a human's voice. Her original voice, which she dislikes using is harsh and grating, similar to that of Cocytus. She harbors a big grudge against an adventurer named Evileye who used anti-bug magic to destroy her cute voice in battle.
- Pandora's Actor (パンドラズ・アクター Pandorazu Akutā)
- Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano (drama CD, anime)
- The Area Guardian in charge of the Treasury and finances of Nazarick, who was created by Momonga himself. He's a high level Doppelgänger whose face is a simple egghead with three holes dressed in a Neo-Nazi-esque uniform but can transform himself into others, even copying their abilities and powers. In Momonga's original design, he's the combination of everything that he thought was cool, with exaggerated gestures and body language but now that he is actually alive, he embarrasses Momonga. Despite his appearance and personality, he is on the same level as the Floor Guardians and is considered as intelligent as Albedo and Demiurge.
The New World
- Gazef Stronoff (ガゼフ・ストロノーフ Gazefu Sutoronōfu)
- Voiced by: Hiroshi Shirokuma (anime)
- Gazef is the Warrior Captain of the Re-Estize Kingdom. He is the King's personal bodyguard and considered to be the Strongest Warrior of the Re-Estize Kingdom. As only nobles can become a "Knight" in the Kingdom, Gazef commands his own "Warrior Troops" instead.
- Nigun Grid Luin (ニグン・グリッド・ルーイン Nigun Guriddo Rūin)
- Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (anime)
- A captain of the Sunlight Scripture of the Slane Theocracy sent to kill Gazef Stronoff. Arrogant and religious, his scripture is also in charge of conducting secret genocidal campaigns against non-humans. After Ainz effortlessly takes down his men, he is captured, along with several Slane Theocracy magic casters, and is tortured to death by Demiurge.
- Enri Emmot (エンリ・エモット Enri Emotto)
- Voiced by: M·A·O (anime)

- Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (anime)
- A famous pharmacist in the city E-Rantel. He is the grandson of Lizzie Bareare and the childhood friend of Enri Emmot. He has an innate talent of being able to use any magic item. Nfirea harbors romantic feelings for Enri.
- Brita (ブリタ Burita)
- Voiced by: Satsuki Yukino (anime)
- The brash and often short-tempered leader of the vigilante committee of Carne Village and a former iron ranked adventurer. Brita first encountered "Momon" (Ainz's alias as an adventurer) when he accidentally destroyed her potion in a tavern. Ainz decides to give her a special red potion to make up for her loss. This potion ends up saving her life during Shalltear's rampage, since it made the vampire interrogate her instead of just killing her.
- Lizzie Bareare (リィジー・バレアレ Ryijī Bareare)
- Voiced by: Ikuko Tani (anime)
- Nfirea's grandmother, considered the best pharmacist on E-Rantel. Lizzie's most notable traits are that she is often demanding and fastidious.
- Clementine (クレマンティーヌ Kuremantīnu)
- Voiced by: Aoi Yūki (drama CD, anime)
- A rogue warrior from Zuranon and a former member of the Black Scripture, the strongest scripture in the Slane Theocracy. A psychopath obsessed with inflicting pain and murder, her armor is made from the medals she has taken off of the adventurers she has slain. She partners with a necromancer by the name of Khajiit, whose goal is to turn E-Rantel into an undead city. Clementine's plans are foiled by Ainz, who effortlessly crushes her spine with a bear hug.
- Khajiit Dale Badantel (カジット・デイル・バダンテール Kajitto Deiru Badantēru)
- Voiced by: Minoru Inaba (drama CD, anime)
- One of the twelve core members of Zuranon, with the objective of turning E-Rantel into an undead city and turn himself into an immortal Lich. Narberal foils his plot and obliterates him with 7th tier lightning magic.
- Hamsuke, the Virtuous King of the Forest (ハムスケ Hamusuke)
- Voiced by: Akeno Watanabe (drama CD, anime)
- A female Djungarian Hamster (essentially a large hamster with a snake-like tail that is as hard as iron) that previously lived in the forests near Carne Village. Being originally referred to as "The Wise King of the Forest", she was thought to be strongest beast among the forest denizens. Which lead Ainz to search for it, under the guise of "Momon", to increase his fame. He does so with the help of Aura, defeats it with a strong spell of despair and promptly tames it, naming it "Hamsuke". Hamsuke then joins Ainz's adventuring party, "Darkness", as his registered beast. Hamsuke is notably intelligent and capable of human speech. After joining Darkness, Hamsuke devotes herself totally to "Momon", despite her inability to get along with Narberal (as Narberal often threatens her).
- Brain Unglaus (ブレイン・アングラウス Burein Angurausu)
- Voiced by: Koji Yusa (anime)
- A warrior turned mercenary who sees himself as Gazef's rival. When Shalltear raided his hideout and slaughtered his men, he found himself terrified and humiliated that Shalltear blocked his strongest technique with her pinky finger. He barely managed to flee the Vampire.
Swords of Darkness
The Swords of Darkness (漆黒の剣 Shikkoku No Ken) was a Silver ranked adventurer group of E-Rantel. The group's name was based on its dream of collecting the Swords of Darkness, heroic weapons that were used by the Dark Hero. The members are extremely close, having braved many near-death situations together. Each member carried a black shortsword with four small jewels embedded in the hilt. Gazef and his men fight bravely, but they are beaten severely by Nigun's men. Before Nigun's magic casters can deal the final blow, an item that Ainz had previously given Gazef activates and swaps the latter and his men with Ainz and Albedo. Ainz reveals that his whole scheme was to test the power that the Slane Theocracy's men had, and that he was using Gazef to do so. Immediately, Ainz begins effortlessly batting away the attacks of Nigun's men (much to their shock). This leads Nigun to activate a 7th tier spell, summoning a powerful angel to attack Ainz. The attack barely inflicts pain on Ainz, which he scoffs about. Albedo, however, is infuriated that someone hurt her "beloved" Ainz and threatens to massacre them. Ainz calms her down, and then proceeds to obliterate the angel with a black hole. Dumbfounded and horrified at the power Ainz displayed, Nigun begins to beg for his life. Laughing, Ainz responds by quoting one of Nigun's previous statements. The other goblins and ogres panic and retreat at the sight of Momon cutting down their kin. Later, around a campfire, Momon and Nabe share a tense moment with the rest of the group when one of the Swords inquires about Momon's past.
7 | "Wise King of Forest" "Mori no ken-ō" (森の賢王) | August 18, 2015 |
Momon's group arrives at Carne Village and meet Enri Emmot and her Goblin Troop. Enri tells Nfirea why the village is fortified and she also mentions Ainz Ooal Gown, the red potion that healed her, and Albedo which leads Nfirea to conclude that Momon is Ainz Ooal Gown. Nfirea apologizes to Ainz for deceiving him and Ainz tells him not to revealed his identity to anyone. Overhearing this, Nabe immediately becomes distraught as she was responsible for Nfirea uncovering Momon's identity. Later, as Nfirea requests the Swords of Darkness along with Momon and Nabe to help him collect medical herbs in the forest, Momon learns of the "Wise King of the Forest", a supposedly powerful magical creature. Seeing an opportunity to gain fame, Momon contacts Aura back in Nazarick and has her draw out the beast from its den. The beast angrily runs out of its den and charges Momon. Upon meeting the beast, Momon immediately recognizes it as a Djungarian Hamster, a species that one of his guildmates kept as a pet back in Yggdrasil. Noting how much of a disappointment that the Wise King was, Momon instead opts to use Aura of Dread level 1 to scare the beast into submission. Aura, seeing this, asks if she can take its pelt, but Momon instead opts to make the King his servant. Naming the Wise King Hamsuke, Momon introduces Hamsuke to the Swords of Darkness who are in awe over its wisdom. Momon, however, is floored by their perception of Hamsuke as he can't see her as anything other than a giant cute hamster. After successfully collecting the herbs, the group returns to E-Rantel. Momon and Nabe then part ways with the group to register Hamsuke while the Swords of Darkness return to the pharmacy for their payment from Nfirea. The group is intercepted by Clementine, however, who menacingly mocks the group.

Clementine appears in front of Nfirea and prepares to kidnap him. The Swords of Darkness attempt to buy time for Nfirea and Ninya to escape but Khajiit blocks their way of escape which leads to the members being slaughtered. After registering Hamsuke at the Adventurer's Guild, Momon's group meets Lizzie Bareare and guides them to her house. However, they found the Swords of Darkness, who were turned into zombies. After killing them off, Momon immediately deduces three things: first, whoever did it didn't care about hiding the bodies meaning they had time. Second, whoever killed the Swords of Darkness did so with a piercing weapon. Third, their target was Nfirea. With this knowledge, Momon asks Lizzie if she wants to hire him to save her grandson at the cost of all she has. Agreeing to the pseudo "Faustian Contract", Momon uses several locator spells to track Clementine to an old cemetery on the edge of the kingdom. Using Crystal Monitor, Momon discovers an undead army with Nfirea at it's center. Alerting Lizzie to the threat, Momon immediately rushes to the cemetery. Upon arriving at the gate, Momon astonishes the guards by single-handedly annihilating the undead attacking them despite the fact he was a copper plate. Along with Nabe and Hamsuke, Momon carves a path to Khajiit and Clementine. Confronting them, he mocks Khajiit and demands that they hand over Nfirea while also drawing out Clementine. Momon then leaves Nabe to deal with Khajiit while he and Clementine leave to take their battle elsewhere. As Momon and Clementine are walking, the latter attempts to psychologically taunt Momon. Momon brushes it off with laughter, and then enrages Clementine when he declares he doesn't need to fight seriously to kill her.
9 | "The Dark Warrior" "Shikkoku no senshi" (漆黒の戦士) | September 1, 2015 |
Momon and Nabe begin their respective fights against Khajiit and Clementine. Khajiit summons two skeletal dragons that he declares are impervious to magic, but this is proven partially false as Nabe easily obliterates both the dragons and Khajiit with a seventh tier spell (as the dragons can only block six and below.) Momon, continuing to give Clementine a handicap, clashes with her repeatedly. Furious at how Momon repeatedly mocks her as weak, Clemetine charges Momon with a full force attack and stabs him in both eyes with elemental strikes. Laughing, Momon brushes off the move to Clementine's shock and pins her with a one-armed bear hug. Revealing his true nature as an undead elder lich, Ainz torments Clementine that she was defeated by a magic caster that didn't even use magic. Visibly shaken, Clementine snaps and flails relentlessly while thrashing at Ainz to release her. Her efforts prove futile, and Ainz crushes her body with both arms, killing her. Ainz then returns victorious with Narberal, Hamsuke and Nfriea and for his efforts is immediately promoted to Mythril rank. As he discusses his new promotion with Narberal, Ainz contacts Albedo who alerts him that Shalltear Bloodfallen has rebelled against Nazarick.
