Pömmelte is a village and a former municipality in the district Salzlandkreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Barby. In the Bronze Age, around the late 3rd millennium BC, it was the site of an astronomical observatory with a function similar to Stonehenge, but built in a wooden construction, but probably no permanent settlement. The modern settlement is first documented in 1292 and probably was founded not too long before, probably by Sorbish settlers.
