The Paengmu Line is a partially electrified narrow gauge line of the North Korean State Railway running from Paegam on the Paektusan Ch'ŏngnyŏn Line to Musan on the Musan Line.[1] The electrified section runs 111 km from Paegam Ch'ŏngnyŏn station to Yugok, whence the remaining 80.7 km to the terminus at Musan remains unelectrified.

History

The construction was started at Paegam station by the Chosen Government Railway in 1932.[2] The section Paegam–Sanyangdae was first opened in 1934. In 1944 the construction of this line was completed and this line was connected with the Musan Line at the Musan station. The line was extended during the period as follows:

Date Section Length
1 September 1934 Paegam (Paegam Ch'ŏngnyŏn)–Sanyangdae 33.8 km
1 September 1935 Sanyangdae–Yŏnam 22.1 km
16 October 1936 Yŏnam-Yup'yŏngdong 44.6 km
1 October 1939 Yup'yŏngdong–Yŏnsa 36.3 km
1 December 1944 Yŏnsa–Musan 54.9 km
