Pallapalayam is a panchayat town in Coimbatore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Pallapalayam had a population of 9498. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Pallapalayam has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 71%. In Pallapalayam, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age. Present Panchayath leader (President) of Pallapalayam is Mr.S.Bala Suresh, He was well known among the local people by uniting all the caste(Samuthayam)people for a temple kumbabishekam (During 2000), which they were separated because of the same temple (pirinthu kidantha anaithu samuthaya makkalaiyum ondraka sethiya perumai ivaraiye sarum). He also fought with the government to get 120 land properties (patta's) for the thalith people even before he came to the office. He is also well known as a cheer leader among the political district of Tirupur and Coimbatore. He was a popular player in Kabaddi (It is a team contact sport originated in India) among the whole state teams. He is the youngest among all to hold the office. Before him Pallapalayam was led by Mr. A. Boganathan,Mrs. Kanakavalli Shanmugasundaram, Mrs. Amsaveni Ponnusamy, MR. Thirumalisamy Gounder and Mr. Tamil Selvam Gounder. Mr. Thirumalisamy Gounder was a well known politician since MGR period. He was the Panchayath leader of Pallapalayam consecutively for 20 years. He was also EX-District counselor of udumalpet during the ADMK lead government. He placed great emphasis on social development in the village. He also launched special bus service for the village people.

Climate

Pallapalayam has a pleasant, salubrious climate, not reaching the high temperatures of other southern India cities/ towns.

Culture

The people of Pallapalayam are known for their well-cultured manners, honesty and hospitality.

Cultivation

Pallapalayam is predominantly flourished with water resource. Sugarcane is the major crop cultivated. Crushing of sugarcane is done at the Amaravathi Cooperative Sugar Mills, located in Amaravathi, which is few miles away from Pallapalayam.
