Tatwa Prakash Satapathy ( born 26 May 1987), better known by his stage name Papu Pom Pom, is an Indian film, television, jatra actor, Standup Comedian and an Odisha Legislative Assembly candidate.[1] Papu has acted over 15 Odia movies.[2]

Early life

Papu was born in Kaptipada, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.[3] His father is a high school headteacher and performing artist.[4] Papu started performing in Oriya jatras, music and dance during his childhood and won awards for district and state level competitions. He has pursued a BSc degree in Chemistry from Udala college. During those days he won the position of dramatic secretary in his college.[5]

Career

Papu is a trained hindustani vocalist. After graduating BSc, Papu moved to Bhubaneswar to pursue a career either in acting or singing. He struggled initially to find a career. First Papu started singing for Oriya album songs and gave voice for over 60 album songs which did not succeed. In 2007 privately funded Oriya FM radio channels started opening their branches in Bhubaneswar. Papu got an offer from Radio Chokolate for self scripted laughter shows. This brought huge popularity to him and helped to make this his career as a comedian. In 2009, Papu he joined Tarang TV for the comedy shows "Excuse Me Jaha Kahibi Sata Kahibi, "Phaltu Katha" and "Papu Beauty Parlour." Excuse Me Jaha Kahibi Sata Kahibi" which became quite popular. He had played 118 different characters in the comic serial "Excuse me" which earned him an instantaneous success, he crosses 250 characters he would apply for a Limca Book of Records .[6] Papu has been invited to perform at the 45th OSA(Odisha Society of the Americas)convention to be held at Columbus, Ohio, USA from 3 to 6 July 2014. Papu has been invited to perform at the POCS(Prabasi Oriya Cultural Society, Chennai)Annual Day and Kartika Purnima Celebration 2014 to be held at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on 16 November 2014.

Politics

Papu joined politics and got a ticket from Biju Janata Dal for Champua Odisha Vidhan Sabha constituency for the assembly election 2014, beaten by the Former Congress Senior Leader and current independent M.L.A. candidate Mr. Sanatan Mahakud.[7][8][9][10]
