Career highlights and awards

Pascal Siakam (born February 4, 1994) is a Cameroonian basketball player who plays for New Mexico State University.

Early life

Siakam was born in Douala, Cameroon to Tchamo and Victorie Siakam as the youngest of four brothers. Tchamo was formerly a worker at a local transit company and was also the mayor of Makanene. Pascal was initially planned to become a Catholic priest, but had grown to love the game of basketball. Siakam was discovered as a player by Luc Mbah a Moute at a local Basketball Without Borders camp. With Mbah a Moute helping out as a mentor, Siakam moved to the U.S.A. at age 16 from one camp to the next to devote himself to being a better professional basketball player before staying at Lewisville, Texas. He would then spend only one year at God's Academy in Lewisville, due to previously being labeled as ineligible for play earlier,[1] before being recruited for New Mexico State University.

College career

Siakam first attended New Mexico State University in 2013. However, because of an injury he had sustained earlier in the season, he would be redshirted for the season, and instead make his debut in 2014. During his redshirted freshman year at New Mexico State, Siakam would be named the Western Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Year for his performances throughout the season. In his sophomore year, Siakam would improve upon his performances he had earlier in the season, which would net him the Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year award.

Personal

Siakam is the son of former mayor of Makanene, Cameroon Tchamo Siakam and Victorie Siakam. His father, Tchamo, would die in a car crash in October 2014. His three older brothers, Boris, Christian, and James, had all previously played college basketball at Western Kentucky, IUPUI, and Vanderbilt respectively.[2] James had also previously played for the Delaware 87ers in the D-League, while Boris is currently playing internationally in Bahrain. Siakam is also a major fan of soccer.
