Pearls of Passion is Roxette's debut album, released on 31 October 1986. It was eventually re-released internationally on CD on 31 October 1997 with some previously unreleased or single-only bonus tracks. It was re-mastered and re-released again in 2009. The album was originally only released in Scandinavia and Canada.[2]
Album information
The album peaked at #2 on the Swedish albums chart[3] but apart from Canada and Scandinavia it failed to get released outside Sweden. However, Roxette went on to record and release their follow-up, Look Sharp!.
"Neverending Love", "Goodbye to You", "Soul Deep" and "I Call Your Name" were released as singles, although none of them were hits. The album reissue includes "It Must Have Been Love", which was used [with the reference to Christmas changed to a neutral winter reference ("It's a hard Christmas Day" was replaced with "It's a hard winter's day")] in the movie Pretty Woman. "Soul Deep" reappeared on their album Joyride in 1991 and "So Far Away" was recorded again for Tourism in 1992.
The album was followed by a compilation of remixes of the same songs, titled Dance Passion.
