Pelita Jaya Energi Mega Persada Jakarta is the basketball section of Indonesia's Pelita Jaya sports franchise. Currently competing in the NBL, Pelita Jaya has also won 3 national championships in the former Kobatama league.

Club history

Pelita Jaya Esia was founded in 1983 by Bakrie & Brothers. The new team immediately found success in the KOBATAMA league, finishing on top of the elimination rounds in 1990 and 1991, eventually winning a three-peat championship from 1990 to 1992.[1] The team has consistently placed itself among the top 5 teams of Indonesian basketball in the 90's; and in 1999 the team merged with Citra Satria to form Citra Satria Pelita (CSP). The new team entered the millennium with a new name, Bali Jeff CSP. It however, failed to break into the top three in the early years of the decade. In 2002, the team was renamed Kalila Jakarta. Two years later, it merged with PB. Mitra to form a new team known as Mitra Kalila. However, in 2005, the team abandoned the Mitra name; and in 2008, it reverted to its old name of Pelita Jaya. With the entry of new sponsor Bakrie Telecom, the team entered 2009 with a new name: Pelita Jaya Esia. The team's shoes are sponsored by AND1.[2]
