Peter Hughes

Peter John Hughes OBE (born 14 September 1953) is a British diplomat who was Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) 2008–11.

Hughes joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1976 and served in Islamabad, Rome, Warsaw, Sydney, Castries, Colombo and Kabul before being appointed Ambassador to North Korea. Since 2011 he has served at the FCO.

Hughes was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours.[1]

Controversy

Hughes sparked controversy in 2009 with a blog entry that described the "festive atmosphere" in Pyongyang.[2][3]
