Parks, open spaces and nature reserves in Richmond upon Thames
Richmond upon Thames lies to the south west of London and has more parks, open spaces and nature reserves than any other London borough.
These include:
- Kew Gardens
- three Royal Parks – Richmond Park (which includes the Isabella Plantation), Bushy Park (which includes the Upper Lodge Water Gardens) and Hampton Court Park
- English Heritage's Marble Hill Park in Twickenham
- Thames Water's Sunnyside Reservoir
- The WWT London Wetland Centre
There are over 100 parks and open spaces within the borough's boundary and 21 miles of river frontage. Many of the open spaces were village greens.
The main parks and open spaces managed by Richmond upon Thames Borough Council are:
- Barn Elms
- Barnes Common: local nature reserve, open grassland, trees and woodland
- Barnes Green: focal point of Barnes village
- Carlisle Park in Hampton
- Crane Park and Crane Park Island
- East Sheen Common: National Trust property, leased to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council
- Ham Common
- Ham Lands
- Kew Green
- Kneller Gardens
- North Sheen Recreation Ground in Kew
- Oak Avenue Local Nature Reserve in Hampton
- Old Deer Park: Crown property, leased to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council
- Palewell Common in East Sheen
- Petersham Meadows
- Pesthouse Common in Richmond
- Radnor Gardens in Twickenham
- Richmond Green: Crown property, leased to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council
- The Riverside: following the River Thames from Old Deer Park to Petersham Meadows under Richmond Bridge
- Twickenham Green
- Westerley Ware in Kew
The Crane Riverside Park, linking the boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow, is one of 11 parks throughout Greater London chosen to receive money for redevelopment by a public vote. The park received £400,000 towards better footpaths, more lighting, refurbished public toilets and new play areas for children.[1]
