Pettavaithalai is a town between Tiruchirappalli and Karur. The distance from Pettavaithalai to Trichy is 24 km and Pettavaithalai to Karur is 54 km. The Pettavaithalai town is an important place of pilgrimage. The important temples are Karumbai Amman Temple, Lord Karumbu Anjaneya Temple and Madhyarjuneswaraswamy(Lord Shiva) temple at Devasthanam. Pettavaithalai is by the river Cauvery and this is the takeoff point for the Uyyakondan canal which is the major irrigation canal for the fertile lands in Trichy district. Pettavaithalai is belong to Srirangam Assembly Constituency in Tiruchirappalli District of Tamil Nadu State in India

One of the EID parry sugar factories is located in this small town. This is one of the very few factories that has a captive power plant.

This town is also known for its "korai mat" the mat spun using the korai grass. This is the main village industry here.

KRR the Leader Mr K.R.Rajalingam is the well known personality of this town.He has won hearts of many people in pettavithalai for his attitude, honesty and straightforward. Mr.Rajalingam was called as KRR by the people of pettavithalai. He was the chairman of Sirugamani town panchayath for two tenures (1996 - 2001) & (2006 - 2011).He has done many social welfare for the people of Pettavaithalai. His Father late Mr R.Rathinagiri was also chairman of sirugamani town Panchayath. And now the chairman of Sirugamani town panchayath is Mr Sona.P.Selvam
