Pexip is a multinational corporation based in Oslo, Norway that develops Unified Communications software enabling human collaboration through the use of video, audio and web communication technologies. The software platform named Infinity, is software that combines the power of server virtualization to create uniquely distributed conferencing solutions for Enterprises and Service Providers. The software uniqueness centers around a dynamic and scalable means to deliver every video user the same experience no matter location or device, while providing major efficiencies, an experience not possible until Pexip's approach.
Company History
Pexip was founded in 2012 and came out of stealth-mode on May 22, 2013. The big splash for the company was launched at Infocomm 2013[1] and received by the industry with excitement.[2] The arrival of Pexip was considered disruptive[3] to the past industry methods of using purpose built DSP technology[4] to build Multipoint Control Units (MCU) which are viewed as expensive and limited in scale to offer a cost effective video communications for everyone. The approach to use of software to build MCUs not only matches past methods but provides improvements and opportunity for new innovative services.[5]
Company Product Trajectory
Pexip launched their first product, Pexip Infinity, a cloud-scale, virtualized distributed software based platform running its first application, a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), in 2013. This allowed meeting participants to meet together using Videoconferencing software and hardware systems based on the H323, SIP , Microsoft Lync and WebRTC standards. Pexip Infinity thus provided interoperability for voice and video conferencing software and hardware from a number of vendors including Polycom, Cisco/Tandberg, Microsoft, Lifesize, Huawei and others and WebRTC enabled web browsers including Firefox and Google Chrome.
Version 4 of Pexip Infinity added an additional application, the Pexip Infinity Distributed Gateway, built on the Pexip Infinity Platform, which enabled point-to-point voice and video calls to be placed between individuals using any combination of devices or software applications conforming to the H323, SIP, Microsoft Lync 2010/2013 / Skype for Business 2015 and/or WebRTC voice and videoconferencing standards, using a Regular Expression based routing engine to route calls.
In September 2014, Pexip launched the Pexip Infinity Connect installable software video client for end-users to install on their Mac OSX, Windows or Linux computing device to enable users of those devices to connect to Pexip Infinity video meetings without requiring any third party hardware or software.
Subsequent releases of the Pexip Infinity platform further extended the reach of voice and video communications to non-WebRTC enabled web browsers, including Internet Explorer and Safari by adding support for the RTMP and also for Skype.
In February 2015, Pexip Infinity announced interoperable support for recording and streaming of video conferences using major cloud based solutions such as YouTube and Microsoft Azure as well as integration with enterprise scale streaming solutions such as Adobe Flash Media Server, Wowza and Vbrick.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
In October 2015 Ã…smund O. Fodstad, formerly EVP of Global Sales & Marketing, took over from Simen Teigre and became CEO. [12]
In December 2015 Pexip released version 11 of Pexip Infinity and announced its support for deployment directly on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform - [13]
