The Philadelphia Korean War Memorial at Penn's Landing was dedicated on June 22, 2002. It is located at Independence National Historical Park, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1] The memorial commemorates 610 Servicemen who died in combat during the Korean War from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Veterans Day and Memorial Day services are often held at the Memorial site.[2]
The memorial was designed by Jirair Youssefian of Vitetta Architects & Engineers in the 1990s. After years of planning and fundraising, JJ White Inc. completed construction in 2002.[3][4] In addition to the four, central black granite pillars listing Philadelphia area Korean War casualties from each year of the four-year conflict (1950-1953), the memorial includes listing of the major units involved in the war, laser engraved photos, two panels listing events and maps of the four phases of the war, and markers honoring other participants, such as the Nurses of the Korean War. In 2007, the bronze statue, The "Final Farewell", a sculpture by artist, Lorann Jacobs, was also added to the site.
