Phoebe Boswell (born 2 January 1982), is an artist and film maker based in London, UK.

Early life

Phoebe Boswell was born in Nairobi, the daughter of Timothy, a pilot, and Joyce, a teacher. They moved to Oman when she was two years old, and then Bahrain three years later. She studied for her GCSEs at St. Christopher's School in Isa Town, Bahrain. She was then offered an Arts Scholarship at Hurtwood House where she studied English, Art and Theatre Studies.

After her A-Levels, Phoebe moved to London to do an Arts Foundation course at Central St. Martins, University of the Arts London and was subsequently accepted to the Fine Arts degree at the Slade School of Art at the University of London. She then worked as an artist in London and Bahrain, before returning to Central St. Martins where she received a Post-Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Animation.

Career

After finishing her degree at the Slade, Phoebe moved back to Bahrain to make sense of her expatriate childhood. She drew 60 portraits of people in Bahrain, and recorded their conversations which were then published in a coffee table book, Bahrainona, which was launched at the National Museum in Bahrain. She also co-founded the arts society, Elham.

On returning to London, Phoebe continued with artistic commissions and studied animation. Her graduate film The Girl With Stories in Her Hair was nominated for a number of awards, including Best Film at the British Animation Awards Public Choice, Best Student film at the Bradford Animation Festival, and Best Animation in Rushes Soho Shorts.

She has since worked with renowned animation studios honing her technique within the medium while independently developing her own practice.

In May 2011, Phoebe appeared twice in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition - as artist (for her portrait of 'Wanjiru') and subject (in a rather large and magnificent portrait of her by James Lloyd).
