Pickin' Up Pieces is the lead single from Brenda K. Starr's debut album, I Want Your Love released in 1985 on Mirage Records. Produced by Arthur Baker and co-written with Lotti Golden. "Pickin' Up Pieces" is a freestyle classic. The record peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Charts and the Maxi Single's Chart helping Brenda K. Starr become the queen of Freestyle.[1] "Pickin' Up Pieces" also cracked the R&B Hip Hop Billboard Charts. Freestyle, a dance genre, emerged in New York City, sharing musical and cultural elements with electro and hip hop.[2]
