Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Contra Costa County, California is a suburban school serving all of Pittsburg. It has been in operation since 1924. Over 2,200 students attend the school yearly. The school's marching band has received various invitations, including to the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the Florida Gator Bowl in 2011, and the Arizona Fiesta Bowl in 2012. The band participated in the 2013/2014 New Year's Day Parade in London, England. The school's vision "is to be a safe, engaging, cooperative, and respectful academic environment, promoting success for all students."[3]
History
Pittsburg High School originally opened up as the first high school to serve the Pittsburg area in 1924. Around that time, it was held in a small two story building with brick walls and only 90 acres of land. In 1954, the school expanded which later served 3 campuses at the time: North Campus, Main Campus, & East Campus. The name was also changed to Pittsburg Senior High School, only to be reverted to its original name in 1999, after the modernization project.
In 2008, the school board proposed plans to rebuild Pittsburg High School as a one two-story building, converting all campuses into one. Surely enough, the project got started by the start of the 2008-2009 school year. The building opened up in August 2010, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a tour of the new building, which was split into wings: B Wing, G Wing & F Wing, with the exception of Band, Acting, & Choir classrooms. After the new building was built, the Main Campus & East Campus buildings were torn down, leaving only North Campus, which is now vacant.
In late 2015, the school board proposed plans to remodel Pittsburg High again, where they would turn it into an open-campus again by tearing down the shuttered North Annex and replacing it with a Pool, a Lounge for students, and an additional 30 classrooms, hence why the portables were build on the basketball court until the renovations to North Annex will be complete which will take until the start of the 2018-2019 school year
