Pixie Hollow was a massive multiplayer online role-playing game addition to the Disney Fairies franchise that ran from 2007 to 2013. It was produced by DisneyToon Studios and developed by Schell Games. The game was released to coincide with the 2008 film, Tinker Bell and revolved around Tinker Bell, a fairy character created by J. M. Barrie in his play Peter Pan and incorporating her fairy friends from the Disney Fairies animated works by the Walt Disney Company. The game involved players creating their own virtual character as a female fairy or sparrow man, chatting, making friends, adventuring, collecting ingredients, and earning rewards by playing games.

Gameplay

Create a Fairy

Players were able to create up to three fairy characters to use in the game. They were able to choose one of the five talents- Tinker, Animal, Garden, Water, or Light. From there, players could choose the face, eye color, hairstyle (front and back), hair color, wings, and the height for their fairy. The fairy was clothed during the creation process (known as choosing the arrival garment) prior to September 4, 2009 when the create a fairy system was completely revamped and was using default arrival garment, which was made to look like Tinkerbell's from the 2008 film.

In the world

Newly created fairies arrive in a meadow known as Dewdrop Vale in Pixie Hollow, on their "arrival day". In Pixie Hollow, the seasons coexist by four explorable realms known as the Winter Woods, Spring Valley, Summer Glade, and the Autumn Forest. In the middle of them all, there is the realm called the Pixie Dust Tree. Each area consists of several meadows with the Pixie Dust Tree having two meadows, the Fairy Colliseum and Havendish Square.

Games

There were mini games everywhere in Pixie Hollow's meadows. All players could play levels Easy, Medium, Hard, and Royal, but a membership was required to "Play All" (playing all the levels in chronological order). Playing games could earn "talent points" for the fairy. If the player earns enough talent points and fills their talent bar (something to keep track of talent points) they level up. There are 28 levels. As players level up, they earn rewards for their fairy and new talent skills that they can use in the wilderness and meadows to make bunches (an equal amount of ingredients for any number of players when each player clicks on it). When a fairy is using a talent skill in a meadow, they are doing small favors such as saving plants, building spider webs, and growing plants.

Closure

It was announced on August 20, 2013 that the game would be closing on September 19, 2013. All players were given unlimited access to the game for the final month of operation.[3]

Critical Reception

GameZone gave the game 6/10.[4] The game received the Parents' Choice Award, Silver Honor.[5] The game also received the Parents' Choice Approved award.[6]
