Polski Senovets (Bulgarian: Полски Сеновец{ is a village in Veliko Tarnovo Province, north-central Bulgaria.

Geography

Location

Poslki Senovetz is located in the central part of Danubian Plain.The village is 12 km away from Polski Trambesh, 37 km from Veliko Tarnovo, 4.4 km from village of Stefan Stmabolovo, 4.4 km from the village of Petko Karavelovo and 3 km away from village of Ivancha.

Soils

The soils in the land are that of the Danubian Plain. The region consists of around 80% black soil and 20% forest soil.

Climate

The climate in Polski Senovets is Continental. The highest temperatures are in August reaching around 28 °C and the lowest are in January, reaching −4.5 °C.[1]

Flora and fauna

The trees in the region are mostly deciduous, with a smaller ratio of coniferous. Lime, winter oak, hornbeam, poplar are the typical trees of the area. The wildlife of Polski Senovets is typical of the Danubian Plain, often allowing rabbits, foxes, mice, hamsters and deer to be seen throughout the seasons.

History

Polski Senovets was first inhabited about 2000 years ago. It was originally a Roman village, where it was a home to horse and sheep breeders. It has information in the archives that Polski Senovets were called Senovyats or Osyanovets. In the land of Polski Senoves there were small villages: Sarnitsa, Glogota, and Dunavliy Suvandzhikyoy. The population of these villages was around 100–200 people. When the Ottomans started to attack those villages, all the people from these settlements united in one village, which is today Polski Senovets. During the Ottoman rule most people worked as farmers or craftsmen (especially potters). The name Senovets (Bulgarian:Сеновец) came from a legends of lush vegetation which were grown in the land of today's village. In the 1300s, Polski Senovets' population were mostly farmers and potters, Whilst some people in the village worked in the capital Veliko Tarnovo as warriors and advisors (on the safety of the Capital's region). People from the Polski Senovetz were proud of the stories about Nikopolis ad Instrum from 6 km away from the village.

The first mayor of Poslki Senovets was Tasho Delimapinov, a rightist chosen in 1887. Georgi Plakovski was the first tailor in the village. At that time tailoring was one of the most important and popular crafts in the region.

The village experienced three earthquakes with a magnitude greater than seven on the Richter scale between the years of 1908 and 1913.[2]

From 1902 to 1926 Polski Senovets were settlement to a Regional bank,part from Bulgarian farm bank. In 1911 in Poslki Senovets opened the first post office, which had connection with telephone, telegraph and post services with other towns and villages. In 1924 Marin Cherakliev submit a tractor Buldog.

Saglasie consumer cooperative

Saglasie consumer cooperative was founded in 1919. In 1922 87 residents were members. A monument of Georgi Dimitrov was built in 1971 in the center of the village. The year after, the settlement chose the first womanmayor, Maria Vlahova, from the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

Orthodox Chrurch Sainte Theodore Stratilat

Orthodox Church "St. Theodore Stratelates" was built between the year of 1836 and 1837.It was constructed with resources from residents of the village. The first Priest of the church was Petar Marinov Danchev (1793–1897).

Primary School "Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov"

The first school in the village was founded in 1847. The first teachers were the priesthood from the Orthodox church in the village. In 1880 a bigger building was built with four classrooms.In the following years, Polski Senovets's school began to teach teachers from Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa. One of the first teachers from the village was Georgi Tonkov. The teacher from Stara Zagora Konstantin Kirchev introduced new order and structure for education. The teacher Nikola Paskalev states for using main books from the teachers in the school. In 1900 the students began to be educated to VIIIth class.The building of the school burned in a fire. With hard work and perseverance were builded a new building in 1905. Children from the villages Petko Karavelovo and Stefan Stambolovo were exercised in Nikola Younkov Vaptsarov school. In 1977 the school celebrated its 120th anniversary.The school receives from the Bulgarian government medal"Cyril and Methodius". In subsequent years,the students had classes in the disciplines: rocket modeling, Tractors case, Elektro constructing and Floriculture.

The original school was burnt down in 1901. A new school building was built in 1905. By the beginning of the century there were around 250 students in the school. In 1977 a powerful earthquake destroyed the second floor of the school, which was restored in 1980 to its original state.

Labor-cooperative farm"Valko Chervenkov"(LCF"Valko Chervenkov")(Bulgarian:Трудово кооперативно земеделско стопанство"Вълко Червенков") was founded in 1949 in Polski Senovets.Fifty-five members were the first cooperators in LCF"Valko Chervenkov".The first car owned by the cooperative was a GAZ Pobeda purchased in 1952.

Labor-cooperative farm "Hristo Botev"

In 1956 year the Labor-cooperative farm were renamed to Labor-cooperative farm "Hristo Botev".For few years in the land of Polski Senovets were grown plantations of cottons.

United Labor-cooperative farm "Georgi Dimitrov"

In 1958 the Labor-cooperative farm "Georgi Dimitrov" were merged with the Labor-cooperative farms of nearby villages Petko Karavelovo, Kutsina and Gradina.The center of the farm were in Polski Senovets.One from the first tractors in the village were the Bulgarian machines "Bolgar TL-30" and "Bolgar TL-60". The farm also had 3 Chavdar-5C buses. In the 70s a project was created to install an irrigation system, which was realized with money from the Labor-cooperative farm "Georgi Dimitrov". The company was privatized in 1989.

The company is based in the town of Polski Trambesh, but it has factories in the villages of Polski Senovets and Pavel. In 2010 in the factory in Polski Senovets employed 20 workers. The plant is specialized in the production of mechanical and electrical parts for home appliances.
