Poptimal is a pop culture review website based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Specifically, the site publishes television and movie reviews, as well as interviews with celebrities and editorials. Poptimal is also home to the Jone Dome audio podcast, and they have partnered with several Hollywood studios to host contests and giveaways.[1]

Poptimal.com averages anywhere between 150,000 and 200,000 unique hits per month and totals over a million hits per month. Television shows are reviewed based on their popularity amongst the website’s audience.[2]

History

Poptimal.com was launched on July 5, 2008 by Zuberi Williams.[3] Writers for Poptimal are spread out across the United States.[4]

The first episode of the Jone Dome was released in September 2008, shortly followed by a second podcast – the J Factor – in November.[5] After two years, the J Factor came to an end.

Events

As Poptimal’s readership continues to grow, the site has taken part in covering many Hollywood industry events. Some major events that Poptimal has been invited to cover in the past include:

In March, Southern Maryland Newspapers Online asked Poptimal to submit its picks for the 2010 Oscar Awards. Writer Matt DeGroot took up the challenge and his article was published online that same month.[6]

Cameron Cubbison, a writer for Poptimal, also published a review and interview with filmmaker Kely McClung for his latest crime thriller, Kerberos. Cubbison's review has since been used to publicize the film.[7]
