Portsmouth Stadium

Portsmouth Stadium was a former greyhound racing track in Portsmouth.[1]

The stadium was constructed in 1930 in Target Road following a successful attempt at independent racing in Copnor from 1929-1930. The new larger stadium was opened nearby in May 1931.

In the early seventies the Greyhound Racing Association bought the track from the Nationwide Leisure Company for the sole purpose of selling it as a lucrative commercial property. The property bubble burst and the track became a viable coastal venue instead.

In 2008 it was announced that Portsmouth City Council's long term lease was nearing its end and they were considering selling the site for redevelopment. Lease holders GRA offloaded the track. It was closed then taken under lease by a new company, registered in March 2008, called PGS Ltd headed by general manager Eric Graham.[2]
