Members Richard Bevan, Joshu Doherty

Posthuman is primarily a duo of Richard Bevan and Joshu Doherty. Known mainly for multi-layered electronic music, with heavy emphasis on intricate drum programming. A signature to their sound is the extensive use of Roland 808 and 909 drum machines.

Although the bulk of their early releases fall within the IDM genre, Posthuman have been known to widely experiment, their 2002 self-titled EP combined hip hop and Heavy Metal with electronica, and their 2006 album The People's Republic was heavily influenced by post-rock. Nearly all of their output since 2007 has been techno and electronica, with much of it still being released physically on vinyl or CD.

Band biography

Richard and Joshu are cousins, and claim to have first written music together as teenagers. In 1999, they sent their first demo CD to Skam Records, resulting in a release on the first SMAK series.

In 2000, the duo moved to London and began running a series of electronic music clubnights called 'Seed'. These nights increased in size and soon relocated to Aldwych tube station, a disused underground train station. A number of these events took place between 2001 and 2004, and amongst the artists who appeared were Aphex Twin, Alison Goldfrapp, Richard X, Plaid, Luke Vibert, and Funkstörung.

The last of these events were to be held on the 13th and 14 November 2004, however, one of the DJ's set to play, John Peel died around a fortnight before the event.[1] The following week, the night was canceled due to London Underground pulling the venue, and on the night of the event, John Balance of Coil (who were also on the bill to play) also died.[2]

On the back of this series of events, the pair set up their own record label Seed Records, as an outlet for their own material, and music by other artists who had appeared at the 'Seed' events. In October 2006, Joshu left the label to work for B12 Records, and in 2010 founded a new imprint Balkan Vinyl

Since 2007, Joshu has run the Acid House revivalist clubnight I Love Acid, and DJs under the name AGT Rave Cru.
