Praveena (born 11 April 1978 in Changanacherry, Kerala, India) is an Indian film and soap actress who has starred in numerous Malayalam films and Tamil serials.[1] She started her acting career in 1992. Her debut film was Gowri. Her debut as a heroine was Kaliyoonjal in 1997. She received the Kerala State Film Awards for her performances in the films Agnisakshi (1998)[2] and Oru Pennum Randaanum (2008).[3] She received the Kerala state award for dubbing also for Electra (2010) and Ivan Megharoopan (2012).
Career
Praveena is a Malayalee television serial and film actress. She appeared in films like Agnisakshi, English Medium, Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum,'Swarnam and her serials includes Swapnam, Megham, ', and the recent Mounam, Maalakamaar ,Mohakadal,[4]
She made her acting debut as a child artiste in an adaptation of T. Padmanabhan’s award-winning novel Gouri, following which she appeared on Doordarshan for Sapthaswarangal, a music programme.
Praveena later debuted in Malayalam cinema through Anil Babu’s Kaliyoonjal, in which she was paired opposite Dileep. In quite a few films (Oral Mathram, The Truth and Ezhupunna Tharakan), she played Mammootty’s sister.
The State award came her way for her work in Agnisakshi and Oru Pennum Randaanum.
Praveena also performed as a voice artist, for actresses such as Jyothirmayi in Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum, for Kavya Madhavan in Mizhi Randilum and Sadanandante Samayam, and for Padmapriya in Amrutham.She has acted in some telefilms and advertisements.She is a very good dancer also.She has judged popular reality shows like MUMMY & ME on Kairali TV,COMEDY STARS and STAR SINGER both on Asianet etc.She is a news reader and television presenter too.She has appeared in many advertisements also.She has attended many stage progrmmes, public functions, talk shows etc.
Personal life
Praveena is born to Raveendran Nair, a retired college professor and Parvathy on 11 April 1978. She has an elder brother Pramod who works as a software engineer in United States. She is married to Pramod Kumar who previously worked as a Banker at Dubai, following which she took a short hiatus from acting. The couple has a daughter Gowri.[5]In 2012 she returned to India and currently settled at Thiruvananthapuram with family. She published her book Kochu kochu valiya karyangal. She has started a business under Suryaputhra company which sells mineral water and Gaurisankaram publications.[6]
