Primitive Graven Image

Primitive Graven Image is a black metal band from England, who have recently released their third album "Psychedelic Episodes" through Envenomation Records.

History

The Beginnings (2006)

The band's two core members Dokkalfur and Ljosalfur aka Rob Lehane and Luke Lehane concepted the band, releasing the track "None Shall Stand" on their web page on myspace.com in early 2006. This attracted the attention of Pennsylvania based Open Grave Records who offered the band a deal on the strength of the material on the page. Peculiarly, the band's original demo "Hellish Figurines" was actually put together after they had been signed, and the demo was released to the press for review by the label in June 2006,[1] rather than being used to scout label interest as is the norm.[2]

Traversing The Awesome Night (2007)

The band's debut album "Traversing The Awesome Night" was released worldwide through Open Grave Records in May 2007.[3] It was self recorded by the band as a two piece on home computers and used a drum machine. The lyrics dealt largely with the subject of dark versus light and good versus evil, and traditional black metal imagery. Although criticised for lack of originality on occasion, it received good press coverage,[4] however did not shift enough copies, and the band were freed from their contract in 2009 when label closed down.

Live Line Up (2007)

The band's live line up was put together around April 2007. Matt Platts, previously of industrial metallers Interlock took up the position of drummer and Josh Coxon became the bassist. Both lived in the band's home town of Chesham, England.[5]

Second Album - Celebrating Impending Chaos (2010)

The band's second album was released through Envenomation Records worldwide on 5 April 2010 except in the USA and Canada where it is released on 4 May 2010.[6] It is the band's first album recorded with a full line up. The album was self recorded at the band's own Metal Farm studio in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire,[7] before being mixed and mastered at Parlour Sound Studio[8] by Russ Russell. It is more experimental than the band's debut, and demonstrates some of the band's progressive influences using instruments not commonly found in the black metal genre, including Moog_synthesizer.[9]
