Princess Pembayun is the first child and daughter of Hamengkubuwono X and his queen, Hemas.

Born into a Javanese disputed royal family, Pembayun retains her title as a princess styled royal highness. Her parents given her and her siblings maiden name Nur which means light, but it was changed due to their marriages.

Succession controversy

As the eldest child of the monarch, Pembayun was the heiress presumptive of the kingdom that would succeed her father. But according to Javanese Succession Act that doesn't allow ladies to succeed the throne, her title as heiress is currently disputed and Pembayun's uncle, Prince Hadikusumo, titled heir presumptive.

The King doesn't want to speak about his daughter and the succession, but the King argued it doesn't go against the law to make his daughter the first Javanese queen regnant.[2]
