Projects Abroad

Projects Abroad Europe Limited (formerly Teaching & Projects Abroad) is a commercial volunteer travel company based in the United Kingdom which was incorporated by Peter Slowe who was born on the 9th March 1953.[1] Projects Abroad (UK) Ltd, Projects Abroad (Europe) Ltd and Projects Abroad Travel Ltd are all members of The Projects Abroad Group and registered in England.[2]

According to the Project Abroad annual report in 2010, it had an annual turnover of $24 million, making over $3m in profits in that year.[3]

The minimum time for a volunteer trip is one week, the costs vary from US$1720 [4] to US$17,170 in an animal care project in China for 26 weeks[5] excluding the flights. Language courses start from 5 hours for $195 60 up to $2,295 for a 60 hour spanish course in Argentinia.[6] Projects Abroad volunteers are aged from 16 to 75.[7]

History

Projects Abroad was founded in 1992 (then known as Teaching Abroad) by Dr. Peter Slowe. After a few years sending volunteers to Eastern Europe the company expanded to sending volunteers around the world. To date the company has placed 60,000 volunteers in thir programs.
