Prototype is the pilot episode of the ABC sitcom Spin City. The episode was written by Gary David Goldberg and Bill Lawrence, and directed by Thomas Schlamme. It marked the first appearance of Michael J. Fox's character Mike Flaherty.
Plot
Michael Flaherty and his team grapple with a garbage strike and a political gaffe by the Mayor (Barry Bostwick) who accidentally insults gays. In addition, Mike's girlfriend, Ashley (Carla Gugino) questions their relationship when they decide to move in together.
