Psycho House (sometimes referred to as Psycho House: Psycho III) is a 1990 novel that Robert Bloch[1] wrote as a sequel to his 1959 novel Psycho and 1982 novel Psycho II.[2]
The novel is not related to the 1986 film Psycho III or the 1990 film Psycho IV: The Beginning. However, it may have been inspired by the telefilm Bates Motel.
Plot summary
Ten years after Norman Bates' death, a local entrepreneur has rebuilt the Bates Motel in Fairvale as a tourist attraction. Amy Haines travels to the infamous "Psycho House" to write a book about Bates when mysterious murders begin to occur. Haines faces resistance from the community when she enlists the help of a group to investigate the murders.
Review
Bloch's latest horror story is a disappointing effort, despite his attempt to exploit the character of Norman Bates of Psycho fame. Having decided to write a book about Bates, Amy Haines travels to Fairvale for material. She arrives in the wake of a young girl's knife-murder at the "Psycho House," a tourist trap re-creation of both the infamous Bates Motel and "mother's house." ... Though Bloch provides all the elements of a horror story, they fail to coalesce into a truly frightening yarn.
