Punganur is a town in Chittoor district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Punganur mandal.[2]
Geography
Punganur is located at 13°22′00″N 78°35′00″E / 13.3667°N 78.5833°E.[3] It has an average elevation of 764 meters (2509 feet).
Demographics
As of 2011 India census,[4] Punganur had a population of 700,00. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Punganur has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 56%. In Punganur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Governance
Punganur Assembly constituency is a constituency of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is one of 14 constituencies in Chittoor district.
