QD stores
QD Stores is a discount retailer based in Norwich, England with stores across East Anglia and Essex.
History
QD stores was started in Norwich in 1984, with QD standing for quality discounts.[1] The business has grown slowly and now has 25 stores located across East Anglia,[2] although it has a store in Wrexham and previously held a store in Doncaster.[3] It sells a mixture of items for the home and garden, clothing and groceries.[4] During the 1990s QD Stores purchased the small department store Lathams of Potter Heigham, which it still operates under the original name, and set up the Cherry Lane Garden Centres.
In 2013, a new parent company was set up—QD Commercial Group Holdings,[5] to operate the various companies within its portfolio. In January 2013 they purchased fellow East Anglian discounter Thingmebobs adding 11 stores to their portfolio.[6] However, later that year the company announced the closure of its flagship store in St Stephens Street in Norwich after lease negoiations failed.[7]
