Qatalyst Partners is a technology-focused boutique investment bank that specialises in mergers and acquisitions and is based in San Francisco with an additional office in London.[1]

History

Founded in March 2008 by Frank Quattrone, Adrian Dollard, and Jonathan Tracy, the company's advisory and acquisition deals have included eBay, LifeSize, Google, GoDaddy.com, Taleo, Motorola, and others.[2] Qatalyst has acted as lead adviser on over $70 billion in transactions and has advised on some of the highest-profile assignments in the technology industry. Some of the firm's recent notable deals have included Yahoo's $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumblr, VMWare's $1.3 billion acquisition of Nicira, Texas Instruments' $6.5 billion acquisition of National Semiconductor, and Google's $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola. Since its foundation, Qatalyst has been lead sell-side adviser on over $50 billion of deals involving public technology companies with price tags of $1 billion or more, a record unmatched by any other firm for the same period.[3]

Qatalyst has also been recognized for garnering above-average premiums for its sell-side clients. "The typical tech firm sells for 37 percent more than where its shares were trading four weeks before the deal announcement, according to Thomson Reuters data; [Qatalyst’s] clients garnered premiums of about 70 percent."[4] In 2012, CEO Frank Quattrone was named the "Financial Dealmaker of the Year" by the San Francisco Business Journal for his work with the firm.[5]
