Qualifying event

A qualifying event is an event that results in the opportunity to make changes to one's enrollment in employer-sponsored benefits for which a qualified beneficiary (employee and the dependents) is eligible for COBRA benefits. Examples of qualifying events are the birth of a child, marriage, the end of employment, a reduction in working hours of the employee, divorce from the employee, etc.
