Râmnicu Sărat prison

Râmnicu Sărat prison was a prison in Râmnicu Sărat, Buzău County, Romania, erected in the late 19th century. The building became a historic monument in 2007, classified with number BZ-II-m-B-02462.[1]

From 1955 to 1963, a significant number of prominent political prisoners were kept there by the Communist regime.[2] Alexandru Visinescu, the former commander of the prison from 1956 to 1963, was convicted of crimes against humanity for the deaths of 12 inmates and sentenced to a 20-year prison term in July 2015.[3]
