Ra Graharipu

Ra Graharipu was a Chudasama king and successor of Vishwarah. He had a good relationship with Lakha, the son of King Phula of Kutch, and other kings such as Turks.[1] He was a contemporary of Mularaja, the first Solanki ruler of Anhilwad Patan.

The Chudasama grew very powerful during the reign of Graharipu in the middle of the 10th century AD.[2] Graharipu built the ancient fort in Junagadh known as Uparkot.[3]

Battle with Mularaja

Graharipu used to plundered the pilgrims to Somnath temple which was under his control. In order to end this menace the Mularaja marched with his army against Graharipu in A.D. 961.[4] Grãharipu strengthened his position by securing assistance from Laksha son of Phula, king of Kachchha- desa, also known as Kutch. A great battle was fought on the banks of the Jambumãlj river in which Laksha lost his life and was taken prisoner.[5] Ra Graharipu was defeated by Mularaja who then went and worshipped Somanath.[6]
