Radius Books is a non-profit art book publishing company, with a focus on photography and fine art, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.[1] Co-publishing partners include David Zwirner Gallery, Harvard Peabody Museum Press, Art Institute of Chicago, and Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

History

The company was established in 2007 by co-founders David Chickey (publisher, editor, book designer), Darius Himes (editor),[2] David Skolkin (production), and Joanna Hurley (marketing and public relations).[3]

In the first year, Radius Books published 4 titles (Mark Klett, "Saguaros"; Judy Tuwalestiwa, "Mapping Water"; "Johnnie Winona Ross"; and "Otto Donald Rogers").

From 2008 to 2010, the company published 8 titles each year, and from 2011 to 2015 has published 15 to 20 titles each year that focus on a wide variety of artists and photographers.[4]

Donation Program

Radius Books donates copies of every book published to libraries across the United States.[5] The current list of served libraries and schools is 527, and includes all 50 US states. Some of the institutions consist of, Ash Creek Elementary School District, Denver Public Library, New Mexico State University Library, and Memphis College of Art.[6]

Awards

Design and publishing awards include: multiple awards from the AIGA/The Design Observer Group '50 Books/ 50 Covers' competition (Fred Sandback, 2012;[7] Janelle Lynch: Barcelona, 2013;[8] and Stephen Dupont: Piksa Niugini, 2013);[9] National Gold in Photography from the Independent Publisher Book Awards for Aaron Huey: Mitakuye Oyasin; American Association of Museums Publishing competition [10] (over ten including two first place awards in the last three years); Publishers Association of the West; Infinity Awards for best photographic book of the year (International Center of Photography).
