Ramesh Bhat is a multiple-award–winning Indian actor[2] in the Kannada film industry, known for comedy and drama roles. He has acted in over in over 300 films in his 35-year career.[3] He has been described as a gem of Indian cinema in full page advertisements in several Kannada movie magazines.

Being a close associate of Shankar Nag, Ramesh Bhat made his entry into Kannada Cinema as a senior police officer in Shankar Nag's Minchina Ota. Ramesh Bhat has acted in movies such as Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige, Ganeshana Maduve, Ganesha Subramanya and many others. He has also acted in the television, with his portrayal of an eccentric colonel in the television serial in the 90's called 'Crazy Colonel' being a major highlight.[3]

Early life

Ramesh Bhat was born in Manki village near Kundapur. He completed his primary education at Manki and portrayed national leaders like Nehru in school day functions. He moved to Bangalore when his father, Rathnakar Rao, migrated there.[1]

Career

In the 1960s and ‘70s, young Ramesh worked with theatre groups like Spandana, Nataranga, and Benaka. Working in theatre brought him closer to Shankar Nag, resulting in several plays and films and TV series.[1] He was the assistant director for the television series Malgudi Days.[1] He has also directed a movie named Parameshi Prema Prasanga which was nominated for the National Awards in 1983.
