Ramkot is a village in Kathmandu District in the Bagmati Zone of central Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 5327 and had 972 households in it.[1] Ramkot is almost isolated area of Kathmandu when it comes to publicity. Ramkot was named to signify that Lord Ram was here during his exile.According to legends,Lord Ram left his coat here. Sitapaila, an attached VDC is named to show Lordess Sita, wife of Lord Ram was here too. Presently,there is one temple of goddess Sita which contains her footprints.

Location and Area

Ramkot is a village development committee situated 2.5 kilometers west of Sitapaila in Kathmandu, Nepal. It has 9 wards like Dandapauwa, Taufical, Fasku, Jayantigaun, Dandagaun and Sotigaun .[2] Druk Amitabh mountain with biggest Buddha stupa all over Nepal is one of its center of attraction . Dahachowk where head of Kalu Pandey ( Shah Dynasty Commander in Chief) was kept is also centre of attraction. It is election centre 9 of Kathmandu. Mr. Bhuwan Giri is current head of this joint ward. Nagarjun UNESCO Club, under the presidency of Mr. Rupesh Poudel has currently taken over all social works and sports of this area. This Village is now turned into a Municipality named Nagarjun.

Infrastructures

It has 1 high school i.e. Sitaram Higher Secondary School . The Schools in this area are Gajurmukhee Secondary Boarding School and Ratna Rajya School. Wonders academy is only pre-primary school and Jyoti Academy is only lower secondary school of this area. It has one playground . Part of Padma Colony, sitapaila lies on it. Brihat housing is one popular colony in Fasku. Temples in this area are Indrathan, Mahankal,Radha-Krishna Mandir and Shyameshwor Mandir. Dandapauwa (acting headquarter) has one Bitumen factory, one chowmein factory and one grain factory. It also has one Party palace i.e. Ramkot Party Palace.

Politics

Recently held national election of 2070 BS i.e. Nepalese Constituent Assembly election, 2013 has favoured Nepali Congress as victor. Dhyan Govinda Ranjit of Nepali Congress was elected as a Member of Nepalese Constituent Assembly/Member of Parliament from this area. Local election of Village Development Committee has not been held since many years due to political instability. Dadapauwa acts as centre of Village Development Committee but its actual headquarters is Ramkot itself, which lies 1.5 km west of Dandapauwa Chowk.
