Randeep Grewal is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He founded Greka, a privately held U.S. oil and gas company, in which he serves as Chairman, and CEO. He also founded and serves as the Chairman and CEO of three companies listed on the London Stock Exchange: Green Dragon Gas, Greka Drilling, and Greka Engineering & Technology.

Grewal has been a pioneer in the oil and gas industry in advancing the technique of horizontal drilling and the associated process of coalbed methane extraction, which provides an unconventional source of natural gas.[2]

Grewal is a billionaire.[3]

Early life

Grewal grew up in Zambia in Southern Africa where his father was a geologist who prospected for copper for the Zambian government and his mother was a pilot. From the ages of 12 to 18, he attended The Doon School, a boarding school in India. Grewal then relocated to the United States, earning a mechanical engineering degree with an aeronautical focus from California's Northrop University.[4]

Career

From 1993 to 1996, Grewal served as Corporate Vice President for RADA Electronic Industries.[1]

In 1997, Grewal acquired Horizontal Ventures, an oil and gas horizontal drilling technology company.[4] From April 1997 to September 1997, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Horizontal Ventures. Since September 1997, Grewal has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Greka Energy Corporation,[1] into which he incorporated Horizontal Ventures as well as oil and gas resources developer Saba Petroleum.[5]

In 1997, Grewal also founded Green Dragon Gas, a natural gas developer based in China.[4] He has been Green Dragon's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board since 2006.[1]

Grewal is also the Chairman and CEO of Greka Engineering & Technology, Greka Drilling, and Greka Integrated.[1]

Green Dragon Gas

Green Dragon Gas is the largest company producing Coalbed methane natural gas and involved in its distribution and sale in China. The company produces its gas from eight operational blocks.[6] In 2012, Grewal told Reuters, "We have been at it for a decade, we are at a stage of maturity now, and we are optimally positioned to produce large volumes of CBM very successfully."[7]

Wine

Grewal owns the 104-acre Ca’ del GreVino vineyard in Orcutt, California in the Santa Maria Valley AVA of Santa Barbara County. In 2012 he purchased the land, formerly known as the Addamo Estate Vineyards.[3][8]

Philanthropy

Grewal donated $20,000 worth of new equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Maria, California in 2012.[9]

Personal life

Grewal currently resides in Hong Kong.[4]
