Ranil Malcolm Jayawardena (born 3 September 1986) [1] is a Conservative Party politician in England. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Hampshire since May 2015.[2]
Jayawardena is of Sri Lankan origin[3] and won the North East Hampshire constituency, taking a near-30,000 vote majority over the Liberal Democrats in 2015 general election.
Education
Jayawardena was educated at Robert May's School, a state comprehensive school in the historic village of Odiham in Hampshire, and Alton College in the town of Alton (also in Hampshire), followed by the London School of Economics.[4]
Political offices
Jayawardena is a former Councillor for Bramley and Sherfield in Hampshire,[5] and became Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategy in Basingstoke & Deane. He is also a member of North East Hampshire Conservative Association.
Personal life
Jayawardena has lived in Bramley for over a decade, and has worked for Lloyds Banking Group. He is married and a practising Christian.
