Ratnipora

Ratnipora is a town in Kashmir, India, situated equally distant from three towns, Awantipora, Pulwama and Pampore. Ratnipora is known for its education and its literacy rate of 93%. Ratnipora has a very high number of post-graduate and doctorate people. It is home to the most prominent poets and educationists of the Kashmir Valley. The people mainly rely on government jobs, but agriculture is also practiced by a one third of the population. Ratnipora has been historically important for its contribution to education and poetry having produced notable people like, Syed Shamas-ud-din Andrabi Gamgeen etc.

100% population practices Islam. While there are three Jama Masjids, there are more than 30 other masjids, and a Hindu temple. There is a shrine constructed on burial site of Wali Syed Mohammad Sadiq Andrabi.

A stream namely Laar flows through Ratnipora, while there are four bridges connecting the two parts. To the south, there is a stream called Romush, and both Laar and Romush meet Jehlum in southern outskirts of Ratnipora. There are also a few brooklets which finally enter Jehlum. BERCY, an initiative of JKEDI has its office in Ratnipora.
