Raymond C. Ortlund, Jr.
Raymond C. Ortlund, Jr. is Pastor at Immanuel Church in Nashville, TN. He also serves as President of Renewal Ministries, Regional Director in the Acts 29 Network, and Council Member of The Gospel Coalition.[1]
Education
Ortlund received his B.A from Wheaton College in 1971. He then earned his Th.M from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1975. He went on to receive his second master's degree, a M.A at the University of California, Berkeley in 1978. Lastly, he was awarded a PhD at The University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1985.[1]
Ministry
Ortlund was ordained by Lake Avenue Congregational Church, Pasadena, California in 1975. He served as a pastor in various church contexts from 1975-89 until he left pastoral ministry to become Associate Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He served nine years in this capacity. He resumed pastoral ministry within the Presbyterian Church in America denomination in 1998. In 2007 he led a church plant of a non-denominational church in Nasvhille, Tennessee where he currently serves as Senior Pastor.[1]
Personal
He is married to Jani Ortlund and has four children.[2] He is the son of Dr. Ray C. Ortlund, Sr. and Anne Ortlund. The senior Dr. Ortlund was a long time pastor at Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, CA and also served as a teaching pastor at Mariner's Church, Newport Beach, CA. Together with his wife Anne, he founded Renewal Ministries.
