Real Heroes Award, is a social initiative by CNN-IBN in collaboration with Reliance Industries,[1] instituted in 2008 to honour ordinary Indians for their remarkable contribution to the society. The objective of recognizing and appreciating the ordinary citizens who have sacrificed their life magnanimously towards shaping a better society. This annual felicitation ceremony set off its first edition in the year of 2008 awards 24 unsung heroes from diverse fields across the country.

Jury

Judged by a panel of the IBN 18 Editorial Board the selection process involves thorough checking of cited events, persons and places, in order to ensure that only deserving individuals are given the awards.

2012 Edition

The 5th edition of Real Heroes Ceremony awarded 24 unsung heroes who have revolutionized the society as a dynamic leader. It is not only the heroes that that have been honored but also the causes that they have been trying to reform which generally go unnoticed. Be it starting a Chakde movement or rendering dignity in death, these real heroes have made a difference in the lives of millions and sown seeds that will give rise to a better future.

The concept of the fifth edition was changed to zone-wise. The country was divided into four zones and then the awards were distributed to the candidates.
