Critical reception
Upon its release, the song was met with positive reviews. Ovie O of Notjustok said: "Jesse Jagz returns with a new single/video titled “Redemption”. Looks like dude is getting some inspiration from the likes of Vybez Kartel, Mavado and other top Jamaican acts in his quest to deliver conscious Dancehall music. It’s hard to tell what Jago will do next; he seems to have all the talents in him."[10]
A writer for Okay Africa added: "Nigeria’s Jesse Jagz delivers an outstanding track and video for his latest single “Redemption,” which sees the Jos rapper/singer channeling Jamaican dancehall traits from the likes of Vybz Kartel and Mavado. “Redemption” is anchored on an addictive clink-clank beat and swerving synth melody, which Jesse Jagz expertly rides and molds into a hip-hop-meets-dancehall gem."[11]
Alex Amos of Onobello said: "As far as undiluted conscious music goes, Jesse Jagz is the truth! This is his first release since parting ways with former label to establish Jesse Jagz Nation. This one is titled redemption and expresses the artiste’s confidence in the path that he has chosen."[12]
A writer for Pulse said: "A man for all seasons, life after Chocolate City begins here. Jesse Jagz is up and running with the first from his own inprint; JagzNation. He begins in style, hitting strong, climbing steady, and gives our mind sweet Redemption with his Rastafarian delivery. He’s taking over, and there ain’t no stopping it."[13]
