Regatta is a ferry wharf in the suburb of Toowong used by the CityCat on the Brisbane River.
Layout and facilities
It bears the trading logo of the Regatta Hotel which assisted financially in the construction. The wharf comprises one long pier that ends in a pontoon with two docking stations, however only one docking station can be used at a time. The wharf has a passenger seating area with a pay phone and a drinking fountain.
2003 Construction and opening
With funding from the nearby Regatta Hotel and the Brisbane City Council the ferry wharf opened to the public on 7 April 2003. The construction of the $1.5 million wharf, was done with one million funding from the nearby Regatta Hotel and $500,000 from the Brisbane City Council.[1] The ferry wharf opened on 7 April 2003.[1]
Damage during the January 2011 floods and subsequent re-opening
In January 2011 the wharf/ferry terminal was damaged during the devastating floods. Initially repair work was expected to take up to 18 months, but a survey by engineers showed that the timber access boardwalk, concrete waiting area and steel roof were intact, along with the mooring piles. The floating pontoon was full of water (due to overtopping into the access hatches on the deck), but was still connected to the mooring piles down on the river bed, and was recovered and refloated. A new aluminium gangway was fabricated, and the Regatta ferry terminal was re-opened to a full CityCat service on 18 April 2011, 3 months after the flood event.[2][3][4]
Terminal upgrade 2015
The Regatta Ferry wharf closed for the upgrade which commenced in October 2014.[5] The new terminal opened in March 2015. [6]
