Rehoboth (Bible)

Rehoboth (Hebrew: רְחוֹבוֹת, Reḥovot; lit. broad places) is the name of three Biblical places:[1]

Nabatean and Byzantine town

In the Wady er-Ruheibeh area where Isaac's well was are ruins called Khirbet Ruheibeh (latitude 31°1'N, longitude 34°33'E). This was a thriving city in Byzantine times. In Israel today it is called "Rehovot ba-Negev" (Rehovot-in-the-Negev). It was apparently founded in the first century AD by the Nabateans. It grew to more than 10,000 people by the fifth century, thanks to its being on the Incense Route. See he:רחובות בנגב.
