Rene Edward De Russy Hoyle

Rene Edward De Russy Hoyle was a Major General in the United States Army.

Biography

Hoyle was born in New York on September 16, 1883.[1] His father was Brigadier General Eli D. Hoyle and his grandfather was Brigadier General René Edward De Russy. He would marry Christine Guilfoyle. One of their sons, Rene, Jr., would also serve in the Army. Hoyle died on November 1, 1981. He is buried with Christine and Rene, Jr., as well as his parents, at Arlington National Cemetery.

Career

Hoyle graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1906 and be assigned to the artillery. Later he would become Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Yale University. During World War II he would command the 9th Infantry Division. His retirement was effective as of August 31, 1945.
