Lopatin says, "[It] has as much to do with environmental, broadcasted, and club sounds as it does with more direct musical influences."[1] The cover is an illustration by Virgil Finlay from the pulp magazine Weird Tales. It depicts a skeletal vampire looking at himself in a mirror.[2]
